The Lladro company was officially founded in 1953 by
three Lladro brothers, Juan, José and Vicente near Valencia in Spain. However, the first Lladro
porcelain figurines weren't actually produced until 1954 and their first retail store didn't actually open until
1955. At that time there were only a few pieces being sold in their store.
Still going strong today, the Lladro porcelain
figurine's have become an icon among fine porcelain collectors.
It wasn't until 1958 that the Lladro factory
was established and it took even longer for it to become fully operational which wasn't until 1962.
Because of the Lladro beauty and uniqueness it's no wonder that the manufacturing
ingredients are kept under tight guard. We can tell you however, that the Lladró figurines are made out
of an original blend of hard-paste porcelain or ceramic material that was originally made from a compound of the
feldspathic rock, petuntse and kaolin fired at very high temperature. The Lladro are then finely glazed
which gives it the unique, original look. Their fine glazing is part of their industry
secret.
The authentic markings of a Lladro piece is the dark blue mark that has the shape
of a tulip above the company's name. The works of the 1960's simply have the name carved in the bottom of each
piece.
One of the first things you'll notice of any Lladro piece is the fine
craftsmanship and the attention to detail. The Lladro porcelain collectibles are known for
their delicate details in each unique creation, from the superb facial features to the softly draped
gowns and accessories, it's the details that make these sculptures extremely extraordinary and
appealing.
The Lladró porcelain figurines depict both humans
and animals and capture some of life's most memorable moments, for example the Lladro Christmas figurines or the Lladro Wedding
Figurines. These Lladro collections contain pieces that are
romantic, religious, mythological, international and portray fantasy. Theyrange in price from as little as $200 all the way up to $15,000 for the more
exquisite hand made pieces.
Each Lladro piece is created and sold for only a short time, so you can continue
to collect new pieces. These beautiful works of Lladro art will not only
keep their value they will increase in value over time, making them a wise investment for any porcelain
collector.
The Lladro figurines are commercialized in over 120 countries.
Open edition,limited edition and numbered
series?
What is the difference between an open edition, a limited edition and a numbered series?
These are the differences as issued from the Lladro company itself:
Open Editions are pieces made in unlimited numbers for the date it is issued to its retirement year.
Limited Editions are pieces made in a limited number from the date of its issue and is then sold out when the
whole series is commercialized. The number of units to be produced is decided before the introduction of the
specific piece which will be commercialized together with a certificate authenticating it as a limited edition.
Numbered Series are pieces produced from the date of its issue until its retirement date, but they are
numbered in a non-limited form, and commercialized together with a numbered certificate.
