How to Clean Lladro

Do's and Don'ts for how to Clean Lladro Figurines without Damaging them.

Make no mistake, the best chance you have of damaging your Lladro pieces is when cleaning them.  I have never broken a piece of my own Lladro (knock on wood) but I've had cleaning women who tried to clean them and accidentally broke them.   Needless to say, I do my own cleaning now.

Through trial and error, and a few tips from the experts, these are the do's, the don'ts and the basic process I use to clean my Lladro pieces and how I keep from breaking them ;-)

The process I use to Clean my Lladro

Don't ever use dust cloths or feather dusters on your Lladro.  This can pull on the delicate protruding parts of the porcelain.  If you're dusting try using a clean basting or small artist's paint brush.

For hard to remove dirt use soapy water but do not immerse your pieces in the water,  this may get water inside the piece from the small opening at the bottom, if water is allowed to sit in your Lladro figurine this could not only damage the piece it could leave a water spot on the surface where you place your pieces.

When cleaning Lladro, always hold it upright.  Never hold it by the delicate protruding parts, always grasp it from the base or the part of the figurine that has the most support.  Fill a sponge with soapy water and gently squeeze the water over the top of the piece.  If you have dirt that collects in small crevices, use a small artists paint brush to gently go over the area.  This should remove all heavy dirt and dust nicely.

When drying, don't rub with a towel or cloth, always let your Lladro piece air dry.  If you rinse your Lladro in distilled water, this will help prevent any water spotting.

If there is glue on the piece from the price tag for example, simply rub a little olive oil or vegetable oil over the area and the glue will rub off easily.

Don't ever put your Lladro in the dishwasher, the heat and harsh soaps will crack it.

Don't use abrasive cleansers such as cleansers, bleach or ammonia on your Lladro.  Mild soap and water is all you need.
